RESOLVING CONFLICT

Whilst some workplace conflict can be positive, if left unchecked, unhealthy conflict can be extremely damaging, resulting in uncomfortable relationships, mistrust between colleagues, a lack of accountability, less creativity, lower productivity, stress and sickness, a loss of commitment and wasted resources. By taking a number of conflict management tools, techniques and theories and putting them into practice, this hands-on and effective training course aims to turn conflict into a productive force.

TOPICS

  • Defining conflict and appreciating the advantages and disadvantages of conflict.
  • Identifying the different styles of conflict.
  • Managing conflict within the team, with those you might line manage or 'managing upwards.'
  • Understanding how and why conflicts arise, the source/causes, the triggers and how best to respond.
  • Recognising the key stages in conflict escalation and developing prevention or minimisation strategies.
  • Becoming more assertive, learning how to say 'no' more often, manage expectations and learning how to give constructive feedback without feeling the need to apologise for doing so.
  • Appreciating the importance of giving and receiving critical feedback during a conflict and devising tactics for minimising conflict.
  • Identifying who has the power and influence in your team and who are the aggressive, passive and assertive members in the group.
  • Using a knowledge of personality, perception and motivation to move beyond conflict.
  • Knowing how to approach conflict, negotiate a common ground or, at the very least, 'agree to disagree'.
